I take exception to being called "ignorant". I prefer "Foolhardy when it comes to cute, furry creatures with big nasty claws and fangs." (via The Cheese Stands Alone.
Michael over at 2Blowhards is discussing an article by Steve Sailor. I'm not going to get into it here. I just wanted to pass along a quote by Michal that should be framed on my office wall - when I get an office.
"As far as I can tell, what this basically means is that, if people were computers, women would be Macs and men would be PC's."
If that doesn't make you want to at least take a look at the post, then there's little hope for you.
While cleaning up the side of the yard the other day, I found a little colony of praying mantids (easier to make a plural out of mantid than mantis :-). There were a couple of little ones, no more than half an inch long, and a couple of big ones, maybe 2 inches long. The odd thing is their color. They were the same color of the dead weeds they were living in. All of the other mantids I've ever seen are green, though I've seen picture of brown ones. I guess these guys are really specialized. I left the clump of weeds because I really want them to eat as many bugs as they can catch.

This is the quilt top that took me about 7-8 hours to place on my "design board" - a.k.a. my bed - and put together in rows for sewing. It looked better before I sewed it all together. I still like it, but I'm hoping it will come together more once I quilt it. I'm going to use a dark blue thread on the dark parts, and a peachy-pink color on the light - all in concentric lines and circles. We'll see.

It was hard to photograph because it's a queen size and there was a lot of shadow in the yard that day. In case you can't see, it's bordered with black on two sides and white on the other two.
When I bought my first house 4 years ago, I knew it would be no picnic. There's a lot of work involved in owning your own property, but I figured the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. And I was ok with the sewer backing up every 6 months, and the garage and back room flooding during very heavy rains, and the non-stop battle with weeds, and having to replace the evaporative cooler, and paying for all the little things that require calling someone else to fix, because it's my house and my property. But I get really miffed when the city decides to tell me how to take care of my house. If it's not my air vents being too short for code, it's the side of my house having too many weeds. I tell you what, my next house is going to be an apartment.
Craig over at Anger of Compassion has a post about a certain magazine cover. When he showed it to me I was just stunned. It's both incredibly suggestive and incredibly intimidating at the same time.
Have you seen the GE commercial with the beautiful young men and women working in a coal mine? There's another bit of imagery that left me speechless. It's the combination of femine beauty and raw muscle that makes it so erotic. My photographer brother-in-law took a picture of my sister many years ago when she was working construction as a carpenter. It was a view from the back, muscles flexed. It's my favorite picture of my sister. I'm not sure how she would feel about that, seeing as she suffers from Lupus and can't even excercise anymore. But there's just something about women with muscles. Don't get me wrong, the men in the GE commercial are beautiful, too.,
One would think I do nothing but spend my time quilting. One would not be far from wrong. Below is the quilt top I finished this weekend. Funny how you don't see mistakes until you have a big old picture staring you in the face. But I'm not telling you where it is. You'll have to figure that out on your own (it's not that hard, unfortunately.)

The picture is a bit washed out, so imagine the colors more intense. It's a queen sized, traditional double Irish chain pattern, but instead of making the chain dark, I reveresed the color scheme. It came out a little pinker than I had hoped. That's why I added a yellow border. You can't see it in this picture, but there are bright yellow accents in both the black fabric and the center chain fabric. It works in real life, trust me.
I'm also working on five quilts that are a surprise for some people, so I don't want to say more about them. Let's just say I've got a lot of work ahead of me.
I'm sure the question on everyone's mind is: what has she been up to? Well, quilting, of course. I finished another top, but I'll post it later (maybe).
Update on tea from Paper Street Teas. The Belgian Chocolate tea - actually a red tea - is truly wonderful. It's got a light chocolate bouquet with a minty background. Chocolate chip mint tea! And the Sencha Kyoto Cherry Rose Festival smells like cherry bubblegum when you first get a whiff of it, but the cherry flavor is natural. Very nice.
Finished registering for my library classes at Texas Women's University. Classes start August 29th. Needless to say, I won't be blogging much by then - oh, wait, I'm not blogging much now. So who needs an excuse?
