So my diamond in the rough turned out to be paste. Hey, I never said I was a gemologist. Sue me.
I really need to get back to posting again, but I don't want to post the whiney, self-pitying stuff I'm thinking about right now. I'll save that for something else. Meanwhile, I'll see if I can't post something with a little more intellectual rigor.
Posted by Alexandra at November 23, 2007 09:25 PMWelcome back, whatever the reason!

Posted by: Renata at November 25, 2007 09:39 AMI am currently working on a research paper dealing with the various depictions of Mary Magdalen in 17th century poetry and art. I'd be very interested in anything you are willing to share. I happened upon your blog, and I found the picture by Guido Reni. I thought it fascinating that it appears to include some mandrake root sitting beside her. What do you make of that. I can't find any reference to it.
I did find that Reni was sorely afraid of witches, but nothing that would connect that with the painting.
Any thoughts?

Posted by: Becki at November 27, 2007 09:27 PMWow! I didn't expect anyone to actually be reading the blog. Thanks, much!
Becki,
Let me look into that. I just stopped by to clear the spam, so I don't have time to look into it right now. I'll post when I have something.
I will also make a point to post more now that a certain obsession has removed himself from my life.
