Father and Son

The Connecticut liberal democrat in me is cringing, hands over her eyes, screaming, "No! No! Oh my god, no!"

But the mother of a Texan is just happy he's spending time with his dad.

My hubby and the kids belong to a local gun club, and the kids are in both shooting and archery leagues. It is such a great activity for the whole family to spend quality time together. Having grown up in a family of hunters, I was shocked that many of my liberal friends are so shocked by it!!

My Mom and Dad liked to shoot, too. When I spoke to my Dad yesterday, he said he had to sell his gun collection when he moved. He hasn't picked up a gun in 7 or 8 years. I had forgotten that he and my mom and her 3rd husband were all gun people. Somehow, growing up in CT, guns became evil things: my sister would never allow her children to have guns of any kind.

I do have the stipulation that DS is NOT to kill anything. Hunting is something you do when you are starving and need everything that animal is going to sacrifice. I don't believe in killing animals for sport.

If I ever have a son then my dad will want to take him hunting and I'm not sure I'm ready for that confrontation. But it is part of a southern tradition thing. Loved this post.

Oh, it's definitely a southern tradition. I saw plenty of men and boys of all ages carrying firearms all over southern Lebanon.
